Emotional development in early childhood is essential in children building healthy emotional habits which they take into adulthood.
Our program over the past few weeks has aimed to support children in identifying their emotions, regulating emotions, and expressing these emotions to trusted friends and adults.
In support of the program, we had a special visit from Healthy Harold, and we completed the ‘Harold’s Big Feelings’ Module!
Harold’s Big Feelings is designed to support children’s social and emotional learning, supporting their sense of identity and sense of belonging. Today’s module focused on recognising emotions in ourselves and others, emotional regulation, friendship and working together, and asking for help.
But supporting children’s emotional development is not limited to the program. Our daily routine helps to support children’s emotional resilience, as children become reassured by the structure of the day and can predict what is coming next. Children are also supported to regulate their emotions, manage behaviour and interact with kindness and empathy towards their peers!
