We were lucky enough to have a special guest join us at KOTA, Kristy from Cleanaway came to talk to us all about recycling and the importance of sorting our rubbish into the correct bins. Kristy also taught us how the garbage trucks work and where our rubbish goes once it’s collected.
Introducing these skills from an early age helps encourage responsibility as the children become confident in being able to identify what needs to be recycled and how to care for the environment .
After our discussion Kirsty shared a new song with us “the wheels on the truck” and read us a story called “in the bin” which is a fun story that explains again what rubbish goes into what bin.
It was then time to put our rubbish sorting knowledge and skills to the test! The children were called up one by one to pick an item, once the item was picked it was time to decide which bin it would go in! The children encouraged one another and gave suggestions to peers when needed!
After our game we thanked Kirsty for coming to visit and she gave us some awesome activity books with stickers, the children loved sorting out the rubbish themed stickers into the correct bins, they were confident in their decision making and encouraged peers if they needed any assistance.
