Our Butterflies had a wonderful time during their excursion to the library for NAIDOC Week Story Time.
The children were excellent listeners throughout our walk, holding hands and showing great respect for their surroundings. When we arrived at the library, we were warmly welcomed by the lovely Aunty Diarna, who shared heartwarming stories from her own childhood before reading stories about Australian animals, Aboriginal culture, and our native land.
After story time, the Butterflies had the opportunity to explore a collection of beautiful handcrafted Aboriginal artefacts, including tapping sticks, emu callers, gathering bowls used for collecting fruits and vegetables, and traditional grinding sticks. The children were fascinated by these cultural items and enjoyed learning about their purpose and significance.
This excursion was a meaningful experience that helped our children develop a deeper understanding of Aboriginal history, culture, and traditions while strengthening connections with our local Hurstville community. Experiences like these encourage respect, curiosity, and appreciation for Australia’s rich cultural heritage.
