In celebration of NAIDOC Week and the 50th anniversary of NAIDOC, the children at Kids on the Avenue engaged in a variety of meaningful experiences that honoured the history, culture, and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples — the First Peoples of Australia.
Throughout NAIDOC week, the children participated in activities such as making traditional damper, learning about what the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander flags represent, reading Dreamtime stories and creating inspired artworks, and engaging in traditional ways of music and songs. This NAIDOC week the children have also been working together to create three collaborative artworks, each made with the hands, hearts, and creativity of our young learners. These artworks reflect the 2025 theme of NAIDOC WEEK, ‘The Next Generation; Strength, Vision and Legacy’, representing the strength of our young leaders, the vision of Aboriginal and Indigenous communities, and the legacy of the Aboriginal peoples ancestors.
At Kidz on the Avenue, we are committed to embedding respect for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures into our everyday learning. Celebrating NAIDOC Week helps children grow their understanding of Australia’s shared history and nurtures an appreciation for the richness of cultural diversity around them. Through these experiences, we aim to foster empathy, inclusion, and a strong sense of community in every child which are built upon in adolescence.
