Over the past two weeks, the children at Kidz on the Avenue took part in our Hatching Chicks Program, watching fertilised eggs hatch into chicks and ducks in their own classroom!
From the moment the incubator arrived, the children were actively involved in the process, monitoring the eggs, helping change food and water, and asking thoughtful questions about the life cycle of chickens.
Our customised hatching chicks work booklet tailored to our bees and butterflies also helped support the children’s learning and development, helping integrate literacy and numeracy skills into the program in a fun and engaging way.
When the chicks finally hatched, the children were fascinated. They showed curiosity and genuine care as they observed the chicks and ducks, held and pat them. The children chose to observe the chicks and ducks during their free play, sharing ideas with their friends. This was a learning experience about animals and life cycles, but also about patience, empathy, and responsibility.
Experiences like this are so valuable, where curiosity leads learning, and hands-on activities help build real understanding. This program sparked meaningful conversations and curiosity, helping children connect with their wider world.
