We have very exciting news to share with you all. As your children may have already told you, our yard makeover has been complete!
After making reflections of our outdoor spaces in our Quality Improvement Plan (QIP), we decided to create a new outdoor area to support these reflections. We reduced the amount of plastic in our yard and transformed it into a more natural space.
Firstly, we planted several trees to create a fresh, open atmosphere for our children to enjoy. We also wanted to challenge our children to participate in more risky play, to build and strengthen their core muscles. Our seating arrangement in the yard takes inspiration from an Aboriginal yarning circle, and provides a natural space where we can read stories. The natural seats, stepping stones and logs allow children to gather harmoniously and tell creative stories. The yarning circle gives us a great opportunity to embed Aboriginal culture into our program, and encourages both learning and participation amongst our children.
The children love it, and we can already recognise and appreciate the improvements the new additions have made to the development and learning of our children. At Kidz on the Avenue, we are always looking for ways to invest in our centre and in our children, and this yard makeover was a perfect opportunity to do just that.
